According to the Hurun India Richlist, India’s dollar billionaire count has reached 334, a 29 percent increase from the previous year, with a new billionaire added every five days in 2018.

With 17 new recruits to the Hurun list, Hyderabad has surpassed Bengaluru for the first time to rank third on the wealthy list, with Mumbai and New Delhi holding the top two spots in terms of new arrivals.

Harshil Mathur and Shashank Kumar, the founders of Razorpay, became the list’s youngest billionaires at the age of 33. Kaivalya Vohra of Zepto is the youngest entrant on the wealthy list, at 21 years old, with his co-founder Aadit Palicha coming in second at 22 years old. This year’s list boasts  of 11 people born in the 90s.

This year, the Hurun Richlist has found 1539 people with Rs 1,000 crore or more, adding 272 names to the total list.

Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan made it to the richlist for the first time, at 58 years of age, with a wealth of Rs 7,300 crore, powered by his stakes in IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders and film production company Red Chillies Entertainment.

The founder and chief researcher at Hurun India, Anas Rahman Junaid said the country is emerging as the wealth creation engine of Asia. “While China saw a 25 percent decline in its number of billionaires, India experienced a 29 percent increase, reaching 334 billionaires,” he said, adding that the composition of the list offers a glimpse of the future trajectory of the Indian economy.
