Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, announced on Tuesday that the state government will improve the functioning of the state council of educational research and Training (SCERT) and district institutes of education and training (DIETs) in order to provide quality education to students.
The chief minister, who presided over a meeting of the education department, stated that excess mid-day meal workers would be accommodated in adjacent schools and that their services would not be terminated as a result of the merger.
The state government is revolutionizing the present education system through a variety of measures, and school mergers are one of the important efforts aimed at providing excellent education at government educational institutions, he noted.
The wrong policies of the previous BJP govt had led to a decline in Himachal’s ranking to 21st place nationally in terms of quality education and the current state govt is working meticulously to offer quality education in the government educational institutions, said the chief minister.
He added that the state government has introduced foreign exposure visits to the teachers, enabling them to adopt best teaching practices, ultimately benefiting the students.
The state govt would also send meritorious students who excel in academics, sports, and other fields to such visits so that they could get gainful from these visits, he asserted.
Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Secretary Education Rakesh Kanwar, and other senior officers also attended the meeting.
The state govt is also trying to improve the sports infrastructure in the education institutes and students in the 6 to 14 age group will participate in under-14 tournaments. There will be separate tournaments for students in the 6 to 11 age group to provide them with an apt platform in the primary school stage, he added.
The chief minister said that the state govt has already issued instructions to dedicate at least 15 minutes each day for physical exercise in all the schools.
The CM said that to promote sport and support athletes, the state govt had increased their diet money. The allowance has been raised from Rs 240 to Rs 400 for the state-level championship, Rs 300 for district level, and Rs 240 for block-level events. For sportspersons competing outside the state, diet money has been enhanced to Rs 500.
