Smriti ,the mourning yet proud wife of Captain Anshuman Singh from Indian Army Medical Corps, described her husband’s determination and bravery vividly. After his death he was awarded the kirti Chakra posthumously for his exceptional heroism. Once Captain Singh said to Smriti, “I would be dead with brass on my chest. I will not die an ordinary death.”
The woman in a white sari stood beside her mother-in-law Manju Singh and took India’s second highest peacetime gallantry award from President Droupadi Murmu during solemn investiture ceremony on Friday.
A touching video shared by the Ministry of Defence on X social media channel featured Smriti sharing fond memories about her husband, who she first fell in love with at first sight when they were still students in college. They finally got married after spending eight years away from each other due to their different professions.
Captain Singh had died while trying to save people during a major fire outbreak last year July thereby cutting short their dreams. President Droupadi Murmu through Rashtrapati Bhavan declared that Captain Anshuman Singh would be honoured posthumously for his altruistic bravery towards danger.
Smriti, the wife of the late Captain Anshuman Singh, fondly recalled their love story, describing it as love at first sight. Recently, she was in New Delhi to accept the Kirti Chakra on his behalf. Last Friday, President Droupadi Murmu posthumously awarded Captain Anshuman Singh with the Kirti Chakra for his courageous actions in Siachen, where he tragically passed away in July last year. The award was received by Captain Singh’s mother, Manju Singh, and his wife, Smriti.
President Murmu later announced the honor on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), highlighting Captain Anshuman Singh’s bravery and selflessness during a critical fire .Just the day before he died she spoke about what they were looking forward to in future but this seems like a dream now that she cannot believe it where he risked his life to save numerous individuals.
