Hardeep Singh Puri: Reference Fuels Launch Fosters Vision of AtmaNirbhar Bharat

Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing & Urban Affairs, announced the launch of Reference Gasoline and Diesel Fuels produced by IndianOil’s Paradip & Panipat Refineries in India. The move is seen as a significant achievement, stamping India’s indigenous technical prowess and fostering the Make in India mission of the Government of India.

Puri highlighted that this is the first time India is venturing into the production of Reference Gasoline and Diesel Fuels, reducing India’s dependence on imports and catapulting India’s energy industry to select global players with exclusive competencies.

The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas adopted a four-pronged energy security strategy guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming India into an “energy-independent” nation by 2047.

This strategy includes diversification of energy supplies, increasing India’s exploration and production footprint, alternate energy sources, and green hydrogen and EVs. Puri praised the efforts of oil companies under the Ministry’s guidance, including clean energy initiatives, transition to BS-VI fuels, EV charging stations, CBG, Sustainable Aviation Fuel, Ethanol blending, and Hydrogen fuels.

Panipat Refinery & Petrochemicals Complex was called the flagbearer of path-breaking initiatives for enhancing IndianOil’s green agenda, commissioning India’s first 2G & 3G ethanol plants. The upcoming 10 KTA green hydrogen plant at Panipat will further augment IndianOil’s green energy transition. Puri also commended IndianOil’s Research & Development Centre for filing 1500 patents and winning recognition for decades of pioneering work.

Puri acknowledged India’s significant strides towards fulfilling its aspirations for a more sustainable future, including fuel blending, achieving 20% blending from 2030 to 2025, and the introduction of green hydrogen fuel cell buses in Delhi. He emphasized India’s potential as a coveted player in the global energy market, given its status as the 5th largest economy while maintaining equilibrium in crude oil prices.
