Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has introduced the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) for the foundational period of children aged three to eight, the first time it has been developed for this level.
The NCF will enroll children aged three in formal schooling, as outlined in the National Education Policy-2020 (NEP). The first of four NCFs in the works, Balvatikas (pre-primary classes), was started at Kendriya Vidyalayas. ECCE in the anganwadi system was largely concerned with nutrition and health, but the play school system was unregulated in private.
The most essential part of the NEP has been the construction of a national curriculum for school instruction, which is both futuristic and critical. According to global research, providing affordable, accessible, high-quality early childhood care and education is a country’s finest investment for its future. The new framework includes the ‘panchakosha’ idea for the education of children aged three to eight, emphasizing cognitive growth and socio-emotional stimulation.
The NCERT has designed ‘Vidya Pravesh’ for students entering class 1, which will be carried out over three months, with four hours per day dedicated to familiarizing youngsters with the school environment and offering experiences for sustaining wellbeing. This entry-level education will provide opportunities to learn about ethical ideals and cultural diversity, as well as interact with the physical, social, and natural environments.
Based on the NCF’s suggestions, the Union Education Ministry launched Balvatikas at Kendriya Vidyalayas to include pre-primary courses into the official education system. For the first time at 50 Kendriya Vidyalayas, play schools will be institutionalized with a specific learning outcome based on the NCF’s recommendations.
The NCERT and the education ministry have initiated the process to develop the four NCFs in 2021 in the areas of early childhood care and education, school education, teacher education, and adult education, as part of the implementation of the NEP-2020.
