Telegram, a popular instant messaging app, has been warned by the Department of Telecom (DoT) about ongoing scams targeting users. The DoT warns users to be cautious of various channels and links on Telegram, as scammers impersonate well-known companies and deceive users with work-from-home schemes and lottery messages.
They also warn that scammers may send fake website links and pressure users into buying non-existent gift cards. The DoT urges users to remain vigilant and be aware of potential scams on Telegram.

Meanwhile, TRAI has taken serious action against major telecom providers including as Airtel, Jio, BSNL, and Vodafone Idea, issuing large fines totaling crores of rupees. Recently, TRAI chastised these firms for failing to implement norms aimed at decreasing unsolicited spam calls. This is not the first time they have been reprimanded; telecom operators have received penalties on multiple occasions.
Currently, a fresh charge of Rs 12 crore has been levied, bringing the total number of fines to Rs 141 crore as a result of their continuous inability to adequately regulate spam calls. As of now, the telecom firms have not commented on the increased penalties. To fight the problem of false calls, the TRAI has made significant revisions in recent months and intends to enhance laws further.
If the telecom firms fail to pay the fines, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has been directed to seize funds from their bank guarantees to meet the penalty sums. However, the Department of Transportation has taken no action in response to this scenario thus far. These fines were enforced under special restrictions designed to safeguard customers from unsolicited communications.
