The government has announced an increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for central employees in advance of Diwali. This increase will go into effect in July.
Today, the central cabinet met in Delhi and officially approved a 3% increase in DA. As a result, central personnel will get a greater October wage, as well as a three-month arrears payment.

DA is given to government employees and pensioners to compensate them for increasing prices. Revised periodically twice a year, this allowance is calculated on the basis of the latest consumer price index for industrial workers.
