Google Introduces Real-Time Air Quality Tracker on Maps

Google has launched Air View+, an artificial intelligence-based solution to combat India’s rising air pollution issues. The solution, powered by Google AI, works in collaboration with local climate tech firms to provide real-time hyperlocal air quality information to local sustainability startups, researchers, corporations, city administrators, and citizens.

The ecosystem can provide valuable air quality insights to government agencies responsible for environmental monitoring and urban planning. It also provides real-time hyperlocal air quality information in Google Maps for users across India.

Air View+ empowers local municipal corporations with hyperlocal air quality data for their cities, which can be used to develop in-house AQ dashboards via researchers and sustainability partners.

These dashboards provide air quality data for unmonitored areas and help urban planners identify hotspots and make necessary interventions. The capabilities of Air View+ were tested in a pilot run last year, with promising results from partnerships with municipal corporations like Navi Mumbai, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, and Greater Chennai.

The system also helps common people access hyperlocal air quality information across India in Google Maps. The AI fusion approach combines data from various input sources, generating a dynamic hyperlocal Air Quality Index (AQI) at a granular level. The information may help vulnerable populations, such as young children or the elderly, take appropriate preventative measures and precautions for their health.
