Gita Press, Gorakhpur was chosen as the recipient of the Gandhi Peace Prize for 2021 by the jury, presided over by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, following careful consideration on June 18, 2023. This decision was made in honor of Gita Press’s outstanding contribution to social, economic, and political transformation through nonviolent and other Gandhian methods.
In 1995, on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth, the Government of India established the Gandhi Peace Prize as a yearly honor in his memory. Everyone is eligible for the award, regardless of their gender, nationality, ethnicity, language, caste, or faith.
One crore rupees ($1,000,000), an acknowledgment, a plaque, and a priceless traditional handicraft or item are included with the award.
The Gandhian ideas of peace and social harmony were promoted by Gita Press, as Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi recalls. He pointed out that Gita Press’s receipt of the Gandhi Peace Prize after a century of operation is a testament to the institution’s efforts in charitable activity.
