Gautam Gambhir has recommended his choices for assistant coach and bowling coach to the BCCI. Recently appointed as head coach of the Indian cricket team, Gambhir aims to bring in Abhishek Nayar, currently assistant coach at Kolkata Knight Riders, as his assistant coach.
He also wants R Vinay Kumar, a former Indian cricketer and Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer, to be the team’s bowling coach.
According to RevSportz, Gambhir has submitted these names to the BCCI. His coaching tenure begins with the upcoming Sri Lanka series, so quick action from the BCCI is expected on his recommendations.
Gambhir expressed honor and excitement in his new role, following Rahul Dravid’s successful tenure that ended with India’s T20 World Cup win in Barbados. He thanked Dravid and his team and looks forward to working closely with the BCCI, Head of Cricket VVS Laxman, support staff, and players to achieve success in upcoming tournaments.
Gambhir’s first task as India’s coach will be the tour of Sri Lanka for three T20Is and three ODIs starting July 27. BCCI President Roger Binny thanked Dravid for his tenure and expressed confidence in Gambhir’s leadership to guide Team India forward. The appointment was unanimously recommended by the Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe, and Sulakshana Naik, after applications were invited for the position on May 13.
