Ganguly Weighs In: India’s Bowling Brilliance, But Best-Ever? “Not So Sure”

With India’s stellar performance in the ongoing ODI World Cup, many hail their bowling attack as the best ever. However, former skipper Sourav Ganguly throws a curveball, comparing the present pace trio to the formidable 2003 World Cup bowlers.

In a candid chat with Sports Tak, Ganguly acknowledged the brilliance of the current trio – Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah. Their collective haul of 41 wickets has undoubtedly been a game-changer in the tournament. Yet, the seasoned captain, known for his straightforward opinions, asserted, “I can’t say this is the best-ever Indian pace attack to date.”

Drawing a parallel with the 2003 World Cup campaign,Sourav Ganguly reminisced about the formidable trio of Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan, and Javagal Srinath. In his eyes, they too were exceptional. However, he did express the excitement of witnessing the present trio in action. “It’s a big difference when you have Bumrah. There’s pressure from both ends as it is always about bowling in pairs. Bumrah makes a massive impact on the other two as well,” Sourav Ganguly noted.

Shami, who sat on the bench for the initial four matches, has since proven his mettle. Sourav Ganguly concurred, stating, “Yes, Shami should have played in the XI a lot earlier. Look at the impact he has made.”

As India gears up for their last league stage match against Netherlands, anticipation looms large. The clash on Sunday in Bengaluru will determine the team’s standing heading into the knockout stages.

In the throes of this intense World Cup, Sourav Ganguly’s insights add a layer of perspective. While the present trio is making headlines, the former captain reminds us that Indian cricket has witnessed stellar pace attacks in the past. The debate on the ‘best-ever’ label continues, adding an intriguing twist to the ongoing cricket saga.
