G20 Summit: PM Modi’s ‘Bharat’ Display Sparks Bharat vs. India Debate

The nameplate in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he started the G20 Summit read “Bharat” in a clear statement amid the Bharat vs. India controversy.

In President Droupadi Murmu’s invitation to international leaders, the decision to swap out India for Bharat has caused a big political dispute.

Additionally, this has led to speculations that the special session of Parliament that will be conducted later this month is intended to formally support the campaign to rename India as Bharat.

The phrase “Bharat” was also used in a G20 pamphlet titled “Bharat, The Mother Of Democracy” that was intended for international delegates. “Bharat is the nation’s official name. The Constitution and the talks from 1946 to 1948 both reference it, as the booklet claims.

In response to the situation, the opposition has launched a harsh attack on the center. The Narendra Modi administration is allegedly “distorting history and dividing India,” according to members of the INDIA bloc.

The Opposition is being labeled as anti-national and anti-constitutional by BJP leaders in a strong response. They cited Article 1 of the Constitution as evidence.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the decision to use ‘Bharat’ is a big statement against the colonial mindset. “This should have happened earlier. It gives me great satisfaction. ‘Bharat’ is our introduction and we are proud of it.”
