G20 Summit: Hotels Ready with 3,500 Rooms, Custom Menus, and Enhanced Security

With the highly anticipated G20 Summit on the horizon, extensive preparations are in full swing as almost 3,500 rooms across various hotels in Delhi and Gurgaon have been reserved to accommodate the event. As the city braces to host international delegations and heads of state, around 10,000 hospitality professionals are poised to provide exceptional service at 30 prominent hotels in central and south Delhi, Aerocity, and Gurgaon.

Security drills conducted by Delhi Police, the Ministry of External Affairs, and embassies began two months prior, in coordination with the hotels. Stringent measures have been undertaken to verify the credentials of staff members and bolster security protocols. Certain areas will be masked for leaders’ security and privacy, and sufficient supplies and staff will be ensured during the event, scheduled from September 7 to 11.

Hotels are gearing up to offer a memorable experience, encompassing traditional Indian welcomes, local music or dance performances, signature Indian welcome drinks, and specially curated amenities like Indian coffee, teas, sweets, and chocolates. Renowned Indian musicians skilled in instruments such as the dhol, tabla, sitar, sarod, and shehnai have been enlisted for welcoming guests and providing soft music throughout the day in the lobby.

Distinguished hotels have been assigned specific delegations, with ITC Maurya hosting US President Joe Biden, Taj Palace accommodating Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Shangri-La’s Eros receiving UK PM Rishi Sunak and the German delegation, among others. Conference rooms, interview spaces, meeting areas, and banquet halls have also been reserved at these hotels for the summit’s duration.

Apart from accommodations, special food menus are being crafted to cater to the diverse tastes of visiting leaders and delegates. Innovative culinary experiences, themed beverages, and diverse cuisines are being designed to provide an exquisite dining experience. In-room dining, specialty restaurants, and exclusive lounges will showcase the vibrant flavors of India and international delicacies.

Hotels are ensuring the utmost security by installing bullet-proof glasses, G20 plaques, and flags. Some hotels are even accommodating requests to customize furniture and upholstery according to leaders’ preferences. With various leaders’ chefs expected to arrive and occupy hotels days before the summit, meticulous attention is being paid to every detail.
