G. Kishan Reddy Unveils India’s First 5G Training Labs and Health Apps in North East

The first 5G training labs in India and 5G applications for the health sector were introduced today in the eight North Eastern States by Shri G. Kishan Reddy, the Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, Tourism, and Culture.

Assam Electronic Development Corporation (AMTRON), a PSU of the Assam government, is implementing the project with funding from the central government provided by the North East Council (NEC). Along with other dignitaries, the occasion was attended by Shri B.L. Verma, Minister of State, Shri Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Chairman of AMTRON, Mr. Chanchal Kumar, and Shri Moses Chalai, Secretary of NEC.

In his remarks to the group, Shri Kishan Reddy emphasised the importance of this bold step towards creating a thriving 5G digital ecosystem in the North East. He emphasised how this technical development would open up a wealth of prospects for prosperity and help the world reach its 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

He continued by saying that the North Eastern States will be able to take advantage of this opportunity and improve public service delivery thanks to a blooming 5G market that is expected to grow much more in the future.

Earlier, MoS Shri B. L. Verma praised the initiative and stated that the introduction of 5G along with technological improvements will be a decisive step for the Ashtalakshmi States’ advancement in the digital age.

The North Eastern States can play a crucial part in this endeavour, he continued, since India is rising as a worldwide competitor in cutting edge technology under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji.

In line with the announcements made in the finance minister’s address during the 2023–24 budget year, the minister expressed his happiness at NEC and AMTRON’s establishment of the country’s first 5G labs in each of the country’s eight North Eastern states.

He emphasised that these labs would help close the digital divide while also equipping young people with crucial skills for the information age and advancing the development of the North East’s knowledge economy.

The Minister emphasised the importance of 5G in healthcare, emphasising its potential to lower medical costs for the average person and offer last-mile access to high-quality care. He reaffirmed that the Prime Minister’s “Antyodaya” goal might be realised with the help of 5G technology.

During the Golden Jubilee celebrations of NEC last year, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi spoke of his vision of “Ashta-Aadhar” for the North East’s journey into Amrit Kaal. Shri Kishan Reddy emphasised that 5G connectivity was one of the pillars of this vision, and that we are now one step closer to realising it.

With more than 5 lakh crores invested in connectivity and infrastructure development in the region over the past nine and a half years, Shri G. Kishan Reddy further reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to making the North East India’s new growth engine.
