France has unveiled a significant initiative during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Paris. The program, aimed at welcoming 30,000 Indian students by 2030, includes the provision of a five-year Schengen circulation visa for Indian alumni.
The French embassy has elaborated on this initiative, highlighting the lasting bonds created when Indian students spend time studying in France. As part of this effort, Indian alumni holding a Master’s degree or higher and having completed at least one semester of study in France are eligible for a five-year short-stay Schengen visa. This visa is designed to facilitate close ties between Indian alumni and their French counterparts, emphasizing the importance of maintaining connections.
Emmanuel Lenain, the French ambassador, expressed dedication to implementing decisions made by President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Modi to benefit students. Lenain emphasized that France is committed to sharing its cultural heritage and top-tier education opportunities with Indian students, ensuring a rewarding academic and personal experience.

The initiative includes specialized programs offering comprehensive training in the French language and various academic disciplines. This comprehensive approach aims to empower Indian students to excel in their studies and seamlessly adapt to the French education system.
French President Macron’s ambitious goal of welcoming 30,000 Indian students by 2030 underscores France’s belief that fostering academic excellence and cultural understanding between nations leads to enduring friendships. To further this objective, the French Institute and the embassy have announced the ‘Choose France Tour 2023’, an educational fair to be held in Chennai, Calcutta, Delhi, and Mumbai. This fair will provide Indian students and parents with the opportunity to engage with representatives from over 40 French higher education institutions, exploring a diverse range of study options.
With over 570 French companies employing more than 400,000 individuals in India, graduates with French qualifications gain access to a broad array of career opportunities. The initiative not only seeks to strengthen educational ties but also aims to enhance career prospects for Indian alumni with French credentials. This move signifies France’s commitment to facilitating Indian students’ academic and professional growth, fostering a deeper understanding between the two nations.
