Fire Broke Out In A Train At Vishakhapatnam Railway Station

A fire broke out in the 18517 Korba-Visakhapatnam Express at Visakhapatnam railway station today in the morning. 3 AC coaches B6, B7 and M1 were effected due to fire reportedly. No casualties happened as the train bogies were empty.

The train had arrived at the station at 6:30 a.m., and it had no passengers when the fire broke out. Local fire departments’ fast response helped prevent additional damage. The fire was brought under control by Fire Services personnel. Railway officials, Government Railway Police, Railway Protection Force (RPF) staff rushed to the spot and broke the glass windows of the 3rd AC (B-7) coach. Fire tenders and Police officers and personnel from the City Police also rushed to the station.

Saurabh Prasad, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) said, “The train arrived at 6.30 a.m. and was stabled on Platform no.4 for taking to the coach maintenance depot later. A Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel on patrol duty at the station noticed smoke coming out of the B-7 coach and alerted the fire brigade and the station staff. The fire was doused by 11.10 a.m. and the affected rake was evacuated as per procedures. The fire started at the end portion of the coach. An inquiry would be ordered to identify the cause of fire.”

Joint Commissioner of Police (Vishakhapatnam) Fakeerappa explained that authorities have taken steps to separate the burnt bogies from the train and to move them to another place. He revealed that the railway staff is investigating the fire incident.

An FIR will be filed, and forensic experts will investigate the cause of the fire, which could be a short circuit or another problem. No suspects have been identified at this time. The investigation will focus on finding the specific cause of the fire, which began in the B7 coach.
