Farmers Detained as Security Tightens for ‘Dilli Chalo’ Protest

As many as 34 farmers were detained late Wednesday for allegedly preparing protests at the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida without official authorization.

The farmers were allegedly on their way from the Zero Point on the Yamuna Expressway to the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida to organize a demonstration to urge their demands.

According to the Noida Police, the farmers were later imprisoned.

Meanwhile, security at the Zero Point was beefed up ahead of the farmers’ scheduled ‘Dilli Chalo’ march on December 6.

The continuing demonstration at the Zero Point concluded yesterday night. However, following the farmers’ imprisonment, agricultural leader Rupesh Yadav issued a video message urging his followers to meet again at the Zero Point at noon on Thursday.

Due to their claimed withholding of compensation and other advantages for property they previously purchased from the state government, farmers have been demonstrating against the state administration and municipal authorities.

On December 2, they started a “Delhi Chalo” march, but the police halted them. They then went on a dharna near the Dalit Prerna Sthal.
