Veteran actor Sharmila Tagore recently shared her thoughts on her grandson Ibrahim Ali Khan’s debut film Nadaaniyan, which premiered on Netflix on March 7. While praising both Ibrahim and his sister Sara Ali Khan for their efforts, Sharmila candidly admitted the film didn’t resonate with her. “The movie wasn’t good, even though Ibrahim looked great on screen. These matters shouldn’t be public, but a film needs to meet a certain standard — and this one didn’t,” she told Anand Bazaar Patrika.
Responding to her remarks, Ibrahim told Filmfare that he respects her opinion, noting that she has seen his father, Saif Ali Khan, also face early struggles. Despite harsh reviews, some defended the debutants, while Sara celebrated the film’s global streaming success. Ibrahim’s aunt, Soha Ali Khan, encouraged him to accept criticism and grow.
Meanwhile, actors Dia Mirza and Jugal Hansraj attributed the backlash to the “eat the privilege” mindset. Industry figures like Sonu Sood and Karan Johar expressed concern over the intense scrutiny the newcomers faced.
