Veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar passed away at the age of 87 at Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital early Friday morning. His son, Kunal Goswami, confirmed that he died around 3:30 am after a prolonged illness. His body will be kept at the family’s Juhu residence, with the final rites postponed to allow relatives to return from abroad.
Manoj Kumar, renowned for his patriotic films, earned the title 'Bharat Kumar.' His filmography includes acclaimed works like Purab Aur Paschim, Kranti, and Roti, Kapada Aur Makaan. He is survived by his wife, who is currently unwell, and their sons.
The celebrated actor received numerous accolades, including a DadaSaheb Phalke Award, a National Film Award, and seven Filmfare Awards. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute with heartfelt words and old photos, praising Kumar's cinematic legacy and his role in instilling national pride through his films. Modi expressed his condolences to the family and fans, saying Kumar’s contributions would continue to inspire future generations.
