Emraan Hashmi admires Netflix’s Adolescence for its bold storytelling and single-take filming, but says creating such a project in India would be a major risk.
Actor Emraan Hashmi recently praised the bold storytelling and unique concept of the Netflix series Adolescence, but noted that creating a similar project in India would be "risky" and a major challenge.
In an interview with News18, Emraan highlighted how Adolescence, created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, tackles the struggles of growing up in the age of social media. The series, which follows a teenager accused of a classmate’s murder, has earned critical acclaim since its March release. Emraan pointed out that the show’s risk factor lies in its execution—each of its four episodes is shot in a single, continuous take. He added, "Convincing a producer here to back such a project would be almost impossible. A single mistake midway would force a complete reshoot, severely impacting budgets. We'd need a director bold—and crazy—enough to pull it off."
Adolescence stars Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters, Faye Marsay, and newcomer Owen Cooper, and is currently streaming on Netflix. Meanwhile, Emraan’s new film, Ground Zero, based on BSF officer Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey’s true story, hit theatres on April 25.
