With 66.3 million viewers, Netflix's hit series Adolescence sheds light on cyberbullying, social isolation, and teenage viole
Adolescence has amassed 66.3 million people worldwide which is the same as the population of France. The hit Netflix series has left lasting impressions on everyone who has had a glimpse of it, from introducing parents to a different, ever-changing world of their teenagers to teenagers themselves of the dangers of social media and being so reclusive.
At its core, Adolescence is a show based on a teenage boy killing his female classmate sending shockwaves through the entire school and the student community. As the investigation unfolds, lots of things come into play from the boy’s digital footprint to his troubled psyche. The series masterfully delves into themes of social alienation, cyberbullying, peer pressure, and the blurred lines between reality and online personas.
The British Prime Minister, Mr. Starmer also talked about the significance of the show and welcomed a move by Netflix to show it for free to secondary school children. Unfortunately, this is not just restricted to a show, from Albania to India to the UK multiple cases of teenagers stabbing and/or harming people have come up to the surface.
It’s a show that’s not only socially relevant right now but it’s a cry for help as well.
