The education ministry stated in a statement on Tuesday that six non-BJP-ruled states did not participate in the first State Educational Achievement Survey, which was conducted earlier this month by national assessment authority PARAKH.
Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, and West Bengal are the six states.
The survey was conducted on November 3 to understand the baseline performance in the development of skills at the conclusion of the foundational, preparatory, and intermediate phases, with the goal of finding areas for improvement in school teaching and learning. It also examined pupils’ educational skills at the block level in grades 3, 6, and 9.
“This extensive survey covered approximately 80 lakh students from 3 lakh schools at 5,917 blocks across the nation. It also includes 6 lakh teachers and more than 3 lakh field investigators…Barring Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan and West Bengal, all other States and UTs participated in the implementation of the survey,” the ministry statement said.
According to the ministry’s statement, the poll was performed on paper using OMR technology.
“With the successful implementation of the State Educational Achievement Survey 2023, critical insights into the education system’s strengths and potential areas for improvement will be available.” These insights will serve as the foundation for evidence-based policies and programs aimed at improving students’ educational experiences, according to Sanjay Kumar, secretary, school education, Ministry of Education.
