In the city’s industrial zones, there are 164 “vulnerable” locations where industrial waste is dumped and burned, according to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).
The DPCC will patrol day and night to prevent rubbish from being burned and to cite offenders immediately. The outer reaches of Delhi are where the issue is worst. According to experts, comparable effort is required throughout the entire national capital region to enhance the air.
The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) announced on Sunday that it has identified 164 “vulnerable” places in these areas where industrial garbage was being dumped in order to stop burning of rubbish in the Capital’s industrial sectors.
According to officials, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) would work with the pollution agency to conduct night and day patrols.
“These 164 points have been identified following patrolling last winter. Special focus will be given to these spots this winter as well,” said a DPCC official, who did not wish to be named.
According to the official, DPCC teams will take legal action against violators on the scene, and both MCD and DSIIDC have been directed to ensure timely garbage removal so that it does not burn.
MCD and DSIIDC representatives did not respond to HT’s requests for comments.
Spots have been found in all 24 of the city’s major industrial sectors, according to the DPCC, with Delhi’s outskirts experiencing the most severe form of the problem.
Dipankar Saha, former head of Central Pollution Control Board’s air laboratory, said that waste burning in industrial areas worsens the already poor air quality index (AQI) there. “It is an important step that DPCC has identified vulnerable points …Similar action is now needed in the entire national capital region and beyond. All state governments need to work together and at a similar pace to tackle such sources,” Saha said.
