Dharmendra Pradhan, Johns Hopkins Plan India Campus Collaboration

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan met with a high-level delegation from Johns Hopkins University (JHU) to discuss the possibility of establishing an offshore campus in India. The 12-member delegation, led by JHU President Ronald J. Daniels, included representatives from the Gupta Klinsky India Institute (GKII), a division within JHU aimed at fostering collaboration between the university and Indian partners in research, education, policy, and practice.

Notable Indian-origin faculty members from JHU, including Mathuram Santosham and Chirag Parikh, also participated in the discussions. The meeting aimed to enhance academic and research partnerships between JHU and leading Indian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Pradhan highlighted the potential for collaborative efforts to drive innovation and entrepreneurship among students in both countries.

The meeting was attended by Higher Education Secretary K Sanjay Murthy, senior officials from the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of External Affairs.

Pradhan expressed appreciation for Johns Hopkins University’s commitment to establishing strong partnerships with Indian Higher Education Institutions, contributing to the global exchange of knowledge. The delegation also engaged in discussions about setting up an offshore JHU campus in India. The ministry highlighted the growing importance of India-US educational cooperation.
