Dharmendra Pradhan Expresses Concern Over Student’s Death at JU

The death of a student on the campus of Jadavpur University was described as “worrisome and unfortunate” by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday. He pledged to launch an investigation into the event.

According to Pradhan, the University Grant Commission (UGC) has taken the situation “seriously” and is taking action to stop incidences related to “ragging.”

“Jadavpur University has long been recognized as the most prestigious university in the nation, but the incidence that has surfaced is concerning and terrible. According to Dharmendra Pradhan, UGC has taken this problem seriously.
He continued by saying that the commission is doing a review to make sure that policies are in place for things like adequate CCTV camera installation and regular communication with students.

The TMC-led state government was also criticised by a Union Minister for failing to follow the High Court’s rulings.
The task of carrying out the Honourable High Court’s orders falls to the state government. By chanting slogans, you (State) cannot escape your obligation, he charged.

Every student’s life is valuable, and nobody has the right to mess with anyone else’s life, he continued.
The victim, identified as Swarnodip Kundu, allegedly died after falling from the hostel’s balcony on the evening of August 9. He apparently endured ragging before he passed away.

However, three more people were taken into custody in connection with the case on Friday.
There have been 12 arrests so far associated with the investigation.

“These are institutions where children come to study that should be the main focus. This is ridiculous and a shame. The law has to be very strict,” Sourav Ganguly said.
