Dense Smog Hits Delhi Airport, Rail Traffic Severely Affected

The effects of winter have begun to appear, as the national capital was heavily afflicted by dense smog early Wednesday morning, despite the fact that the AQI remained in the ‘Very Poor’ category.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the AQI in Delhi was 355 at 7 a.m. today, up from 334 at 4 p.m. the day prior.

The visibility was restricted this morning due to the blanket of smog covering the city as winter sets in. Delhi’s IGI Airport reported a visibility of 00m at 8.30 am today.

Fog also impacted rail traffic due to limited visibility. “Loco Pilots approaching Delhi are maintaining speed restrictions,” Railway sources said.

According to the IMD, the weather has changed significantly, with fog intensifying in the mornings.

“There has been dense to very dense fog prevailing over the city.” In terms of temperature, the minimum temperature in the previous 24 hours has been 17.0 degrees Celsius today and 17.9 degrees Celsius yesterday morning, representing a 0.9-degree Celsius drop. With fog/smog covering lasting extended periods of the day, a lack of sunshine may result in a drop in maximum temperature, according to the IMD.
