Delhi Water Crisis: Supreme Court Seeks Measures to Control Waste

Amid a water crisis in the nation’s capital, the Supreme Court has ordered the Delhi government to provide a list of measures taken to reduce water waste. The Delhi government, which had petitioned the Supreme Court to order Haryana to provide its fair share of water, has been instructed to submit an affidavit by this Thursday at the latest.

AAP leaders Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj have been called out by the BJP for allegedly “lying” and mismanaging resources in order to incite a crisis. The BJP has also requested answers from the AAP.

In response, the AAP has launched a counterattack, saying that the Lt Governor has also been targeted by the BJP administration in Haryana for allegedly failing to give the city’s fair share of water despite their claims to the contrary.

Still, cash in hand when it’s needed can be crucial. Losing wages often forces the poorest women in India to go to informal money lenders that charge extortionary interest or personal favors.

“The biggest value the insurance payment gives them is dignity and self-respect,” said Ms Nanavaty.
