Delhi University to Fill Vacant Seats Using Class 12 Marks—Here’s How?

Based on the results of the Common University Entrance Test—Undergraduate, or CUET UG—admissions for undergraduate courses at Delhi University have commenced. Vice chancellor of DU Yogesh Singh has declared that the university will utilize class 12 grades to fill any open seats following the completion of the regular admission rounds. This announcement was made during the present admissions process.

Even though DU uses a variety of recruitment strategies, there were still about 5,000 open seats as of the previous year.

The University Grants Commission has released a standard operating procedure (SOP) for central institutions to guarantee that no seats in undergraduate and graduate programs remain unfilled, coinciding with the announcement that Class 12 results will be used for the admission process.

As per the SOP issued by UGC, universities can conduct their entrance exams for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses if seats remain vacant after the regular admission rounds. However, the vice chancellor denied that the university will not hold any entrance exam to fill vacant seats, but ensure that all seats are filled in the university.

The UGC noted that keeping the seats vacant for an entire academic year is not only a waste of resources but also results in the denial of quality higher education to many students.

Delhi University is offering over 71,000 seats across more than 65 colleges through the Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG). The first phase admissions at the university began on May 28 with around 2,70,000 students registering on the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal.
