In accordance with the National Education Policy, Delhi University (DU) intends to provide a one-year postgraduate (PG) degree beginning in 2026. The draft proposal for this program will be addressed in an Academic Council meeting on December 27.
The new framework is consistent with the Curriculum and Credit Framework for Postgraduate Programmes provided by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
DU has implemented a four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP) with students currently in the third semester. This program allows students to earn certificates, diplomas, degrees, or degrees with honours after completing the first year. Students who complete the three-year undergraduate program can opt for a two-year PG course, while those finishing the four-year program are eligible for the one-year PG course.
Graduates of the FYUP can earn a PG degree in one year, provided they meet specific requirements in their fourth year. Graduates of the three-year undergraduate program can earn a PG diploma after one year or complete two years to get a PG degree.
DU is preparing separate curricula for the one-year and two-year PG programmes. The one-year PG program will require 22 credits per semester, while the two-year program will require 88 credits. DU is working to implement this system as part of the new education framework.
