Delhi-NCR Gets Uber’s Premium Bus Service: Features and Benefits Revealed

Starting in August, Delhi residents will be able to book seats on new air-conditioned buses provided by private companies. This new service aims to reduce the use of private cars and cut down pollution in the city.

Details of the Service

The premium buses will be fully air-conditioned and equipped with reclining seats, WiFi, GPS, and CCTV. Each bus will have at least nine seats. The buses must be no older than three years if they run on CNG and must be electric if they join the service after January 1, 2025.

Who’s Running the Service

The Delhi government has given licenses to two companies, Uber and Aaveg, to operate these buses in Delhi-NCR. The final details of the routes are being worked out, and the buses are expected to start running by the end of July or the first week of August.

Company Plans

Aaveg: The company plans to run buses in west and central Delhi. Their fleet will include both electric and CNG buses, with a goal to switch entirely to electric buses by the end of December. Each bus will have 41 seats. People can book seats through the Aaveg app.

Uber: Uber will offer pre-booking options on their app under the ‘Uber Shuttle’ section. Their shuttles will have space for 19 to 50 passengers and will be operated by local fleet partners using Uber’s technology.

Regulations and Requirements

– The buses must be no older than three years if running on CNG.
– Buses joining after January 1, 2025, must be electric.
– Companies must have a local office in the National Capital Region.
– The companies need to submit their bus routes, driver information, and bus details to the transport department.
– They can set their own fares, which must be at least as high as the peak fares of AC buses run by Delhi Transport Corporation.
