Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal was molested by a drunk driver and dragged for 10-15 meters at around 3 am on Thursday. The 47-year-old driver has been arrested.
As per the police, the driver, identified as Harish Chandra, suddenly pulled up the glass window when Maliwal was reprimanding him for asking her to sit in his car. He also pressed her to get in.
When she refused, the man drove off but then took a U-turn and returned, taking the narrow parallel lane.
When he tried to force her to join him in the car, she reached into the window to catch him, but he allegedly put up the window, trapping her hand.
This comes weeks after the Kanjhawala hit-and-run case, where 20-year-old Anjali Singh was dragged for 12 kilometres.
On January 1, Anjali, who worked at an event management company, was riding her scooter with her friend Nidhi when a Baleno car hit her vehicle. Anjali’s leg was caught in the left front wheel of the car, as per the forensics report, and she was dragged for 12 kilometres.
The incident took place in outer Delhi’s Kanjhawala in the early hours of January 1. Five men travelling in the car have been arrested, along with several of their accomplices. They have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, causing death by negligence, and criminal conspiracy.
