CUET (PG) 2024: Changes in Application Fee, Exam Time, and Syllabus

Students are preparing for the new adjustments this year even as they get busy filling out the application for CUET (PG) 2024, which has a deadline of January 24, 2024. To begin, the application form, which was formerly housed on cuet.nta.nic.in, is now available at pgcuet.samarth.ac.in, and the application cost has been increased (by up to Rs 200), among other modifications, including a shorter exam time and fewer questions.

Subodh Kumar Singh, director general of the NTA, told Education Times, “It is one of the lowest fees in any national level entrance exam conducted by the NTA and other exam conducting agencies.”

“A candidate can choose two subjects by paying Rs 1200. He/she may appear for both subjects in two different shifts. So approximately, Rs 600 is the fee for one-shift CBT (Computer-based Test) mode examination, which is one of the lowest fees that is being charged by an examination conducting agency,” Singh says.

Altogether, aspirants can choose a maximum of four subjects in the exam with most candidates opting for two-three subjects. “As per the previous statistics, most of the candidates have chosen a maximum of three or four subjects. There were very few candidates who had chosen more than four subjects since in graduation a student normally studies two or three main subjects. Hence, we have restricted the choice to a maximum of four subjects,” Singh adds.

The General Paper at Samarth University in India has been restructured to include a separate subject, with no general test for each paper. This change was made to reduce the academic burden on students and streamline the process. The syllabus for the General Paper is the same as 2023 and is available on the university’s website. The changes were approved by an advisory body of representatives from various central universities. The discontinued general test portion covers topics such as General English/General Hindi, Reasoning, Numerical Ability, and General Awareness. The new syllabus is available on the university’s website.

The CUET (PG) exam duration has been reduced from 120 minutes to 105 minutes this year, with three shifts and 75 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) instead of 100. The difficulty level remains the same as in previous years, with 75 questions being subject-specific. The general paper will be conducted separately, and the total time for the exam will be 120 minutes. The exam will be conducted in three shifts.

The CUET (PG) 2023 examination was conducted in 279 cities including seven cities outside India. “For CUET (PG) 2024, the exam has been proposed to be conducted in 324 cities (including 24 cities outside India) to make it more accessible to the students.

The exam, this year, will be conducted from March 11-28, 2024, while last year, the exams were held from June 5-8. “Since the applicants who are studying in UG courses have their semester exams in April and May, they will be available to take the exam in March. Moreover, it will also give universities enough time to conduct their admission processes as results are likely to be out by April,” Singh adds.
