Cricketer Turned Conman: How a 25-Year-Old Cheated Rishabh Pant of ₹1.6 Crore

In a startling revelation, a 25-year-old former U-19 cricketer for Haryana transformed into a conman, orchestrating a scheme to live a luxurious lifestyle. Mrinank Singh posed as an IPL cricketer, claiming to be part of the Mumbai Indians team, to deceive women, luxury hotels, and even duping India’s wicketkeeper-batsman, Rishabh Pant.

Operating under the guise of a popular cricketer, Mrinank exploited his fabricated identity to influence people, dine in high-end restaurants, and stay in five-star hotels without settling bills. In a notable incident in 2022, he stayed at Delhi’s Taj Palace Hotel for a week, accumulating a bill of ₹5.53 lakh, which he left unpaid by claiming that Adidas would cover the expenses.

The conman resorted to creating a backup identity as an IPS officer from Karnataka, using the name Alok Kumar, to evade authorities. Attempting to mislead immigration officials, he sought assistance under the pretext that his son, Mrinank Singh, was illegally detained at Delhi airport.

The extent of Mrinank’s deceit extended to cheating Rishabh Pant of ₹1.63 crore in 2020-2021. Additional victims included cab drivers, young women, bars, and restaurants. Despite his efforts to maintain an air of affluence on social media, with over 40,000 Instagram followers, his fraudulent activities have caught up with him.

A commerce graduate from Delhi University’s Hindu College, Mrinank pursued an MBA in Human Resources from OPJS University in Rajasthan. His family has reportedly disowned him, stating they have no control over his actions. The accused has been placed in two-day police custody, and investigations into multiple cases registered against him in different states are underway.
