Congress Stance On Sakshi Malik Amid Controversial Wrestling Federation Election

Renowned wrestler Sakshi Malik’s emotional decision to retire from wrestling following the election of Sanjay Singh as the president of the Wrestling Federation of India, a loyalist of BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, has sparked political reactions, particularly from Congress leaders. In a press conference where Malik symbolically placed her shoes on the table and broke down on camera, she expressed her sense of defeat in the fight for justice for fellow wrestlers who had accused Singh of sexual harassment.

Several Congress leaders voiced their support for Sakshi Malik, condemning the BJP government and accusing it of shielding Singh from accountability. Deepender Singh Hooda, a Congress leader, stated on social media, “We will take account of every drop of these tears. If not today, then tomorrow.”

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal criticized the BJP government, asserting that it failed to deliver justice to the champion wrestlers who brought pride to 1.4 billion Indians. He wrote on social media, “India will give a befitting reply to the tears of our wrestlers.”

The Congress party, via its official platform, characterized these tears as the consequence of the Narendra Modi government’s actions. They stated, “These tears are the gift of the Modi government. The country’s daughter Sakshi Malik was demanding justice. She met all the people in the government, staged a protest, got lathi-charged, and today she became so helpless that she took retirement.”

Congress leader Pawan Khera accused the BJP of protecting its members at any cost, even in the face of serious accusations. “Despite the renowned sportswoman announcing her retirement or sitting on Jantar Mantar through winter and summers, they are determined to save Brij Bhushan Sharan despite serious accusations against him. There is nothing more shameful than this,” he remarked.

The election of Sanjay Singh, a close aide of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, as the president of the Wrestling Federation of India has fueled controversy and drawn political attention, emphasizing the intersection of sports and politics in the country.
