The first list of 30 candidates for the assembly elections in Chhattisgarh was released today by the Congress.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel of Patan and Deputy Chief Minister TS Singh Deo of Ambikapur have been nominated by the state’s ruling party.

Taradhwaj Sahu, the leader of the Congress, will run in the Durg (Rural) constituency, alongside Ravindra Choubey from Nawagarh, Yashoda Verma from Khairagarh, Vikram Mandavi from Bijapur, Lakheshwar Baghel from Bastar, Deepak Baiji from Chitrakot, and K Chavindra Karma Dantewada.

On December 3, all states will conduct the vote counting. Of the five states, Chhattisgarh will hold two rounds of voting. With the release of election dates, the Model Code of Conduct went into effect.

In Rajnandgaon, the Congress has nominated Girish Devangan to run against Raman Singh, a prominent member of the BJP and a former state chief minister.

Earlier, during the 2018 assembly elections, the Congress won 68 out of 90 seats, defeating the BJP, which was in power at the time and had only won 15 seats.

In Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, the major political parties are Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party. A triangle election between the governing Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Congress, and BJP is anticipated in Telangana.

The BJP hopes to seize power from the Congress-ruled state, which is expected to set the tone for the impending 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
