The excitement is building as India gears up to host the 13th edition of the World Cup in 2023. The tournament promises to be a thrilling spectacle, and cricket fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the action.
The World Cup 2023 opening match will feature a rematch of the 2019 final, with defending champions England facing runners-up New Zealand. This exciting clash will take place at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 5. India will enter the fray shortly after, playing their first match against Australia in Chennai on Sunday, October 8.
One of the most anticipated fixtures, the India-Pakistan match, will also unfold at the colossal Narendra Modi Stadium, known as the world’s largest cricket stadium, on Saturday, October 14.
Similar to the 2019 edition, the World Cup 2023 will feature 10 competing teams, all vying for the coveted trophy. The tournament’s format will mirror that of the previous edition, consisting of a round-robin stage followed by knockout rounds.
During the round-robin stage, each of the 10 teams will face off against the others once. A victory in a match will earn a team two points, while a drawn match will result in both teams sharing a point.
Following the conclusion of the round-robin stage, which will encompass 45 matches, the top four teams from the league stage will secure spots in the semi-finals. The grand finale will take place in Ahmedabad on November 19, where the World Cup 2023 champion will be crowned.
