Champai Soren Wins Jharkhand Floor Test

The majority mark in the 81-member Jharkhand Legislative Assembly is 41, and prior to today’s litmus test, Champai Soren stated that the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) had 47 MLAs, which could increase to 50.

In today’s extraordinary session of the Jharkhand assembly, Chief Minister Champai Soren presented the confidence motion and then attacked the BJP, claiming that the saffron party intended to “destabilise” the elected state government.

He also cleared detained and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, claiming he is being investigated for a crime he did not commit.

“BJP is using central agencies to frame Hemant Soren in false cases,” Champai Soren stated earlier in the day, after moving the confidence motion.

He further said that his government in Jharkhand is “part two” of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s administration.

Hemant Soren, who is now in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an alleged land fraud, attended Monday’s trust vote after being granted permission by a PMLA Court.

Speaking in the assembly, Hemant Soren slammed the BJP-led Centre and challenged the Enforcement Directorate to prove his connection in the land scam. “If it is proven, I will quit politics,” the former Jharkhand Chief Minister added.

Ahead of the critical trust vote, approximately 40 coalition MLAs were relocated to Hyderbad, Telangana, in an effort to resist suspected BJP recruiting tactics. The MLAs returned to Ranchi on Sunday evening (February 4) to participate in today’s confidence vote. Images of the MLAs being driven to Ranchi’s Circuit House went viral on social media, with them waving victory signs from the bus.
