One of the biggest central school expansions in a decade has been authorized by the Union Cabinet with the creation of 85 additional Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and 28 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs).
The goal of this action is to give more than 82,000 students nationwide access to high-quality, reasonably priced education.
The construction of these schools, along with the expansion of one existing Kendriya Vidyalaya, is estimated to cost Rs 5,872.08 crore, with the funds to be allocated over a period of eight years starting from 2025-26.
As per the government, the new KVs and JNVs will collectively create enrollment opportunities for nearly one lakh students and generate approximately 6,600 jobs.
JNVs, designed as residential schools for talented rural students, will accommodate 15,680 students and provide direct permanent employment to 1,316 individuals.
These schools will also generate local opportunities through supply chains and services like housekeeping, security, and material supplies.
The construction of new schools in India is expected to generate substantial economic activity, creating jobs for skilled and unskilled workers and providing local vendors with steady business.
The residential nature of Navodaya Vidyalayas will also provide essential commodities such as food, furniture, and teaching materials, boosting the economy for surrounding communities.
The proposed expansion of both Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas aligns with the government’s efforts to improve the reach and quality of education, particularly in underserved and rural areas, ensuring more students have access to excellent educational opportunities.
