CBSE will start conducting examinations for Classes 10 and 12 on February 15. The board has implemented several adjustments, including the marking method and the reporting of results.
The Education Minister previously announced two board exams; however, there have been no official updates on whether they will be implemented for the following academic session, which is 2024-25 or later. Many social media influencers and outlets have combined these statements, confounding the parents.
We shall describe the changes that were made for this session (2023-24) and the following academic session (2024-25).
CBSE new rules applicable from the 2023-24 session onwards
Some of the changes have been released by the CBSE and will be applicable from this session onwards. Here is a complete list in detail.
CBSE Class 12 Accountancy paper
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to discontinue the use of answer books wherein tables were provided on the subject of Class 12 Accountancy paper. This announcement was made by the CBSE in October in a letter addressed to principals of all schools affiliated with CBSE.
“It is informed that from Board Examination, 2024 CBSE based on feedback received from stakeholders has decided to do away with the Answer Books wherein tables were provided in the subject of Accountancy. From Examinations-2024, normal lines Answer Books as provided in other subjects in Class 12 will be provided in Accountancy subject also,” the official notification stated.
Supplementary examinations
Every year, CBSE organizes special tests for students who have failed one or more subjects. These assessments were formerly known as compartment exams; however, last year, the board declared that they will be renamed supplemental exams. These tests are normally held in July, and the results are available by August. This adjustment is based on suggestions from the NEP 2020.
Special assessments for students who participate in international activities
After receiving several requests, CBSE has determined that students who are participating in national or international sporting events or international olympics and may be unable to attend their CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 examinations (February-April) the board will conduct special exams later.
This resolution was made to encourage sports and other educational competitions among the children. However, the sports must be recognized by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), as well as the Olympiad by the Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education (HBCSE).
By December 31, the affected schools must submit applications to the regional office, accompanied by recommendations from the Sports Authority of India and the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education. The nodal officers of the involved entities must give a certificate of participation.
Furthermore, these students will not be eligible for special board test possibilities for the compartment and practical examinations.
The exam schedule has not yet been released.
Do CBSE examinations go place twice a year?
A formal notification awaited. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that board examinations will be held twice a year, with pupils able to keep their top result. However, the ministry has not yet issued a comment on this matter. The government has made no final decision as of yet.
Furthermore, Class 11 and 12 students will now be required to study two languages, at least one of which must be an Indian language, and subject options will no longer be limited to streams; students will have more freedom to choose.
