The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is expected to release the date sheet for the 2025 Class X and XII board exams soon. As per speculations, the board exams for Classes 10 and 12 are likely to begin on February 15, 2025, and will conclude in April. However, CBSE has yet to issue an official notification regarding the exam schedule.
Since 2023, CBSE has been consistently holding the board exams starting from February 15. In contrast, in 2021, exams were conducted between May 4 and June 7, and in 2022, they took place from April 26 to May 24. The CBSE Class X and XII date sheet will detail the exam dates, timings, and important guidelines for students.
The board exams will be conducted in the traditional pen-and-paper format. Separate date sheets will be released for the practical examinations. Notably, for Class XII, practical exams will be overseen by external examiners, while Class X practical exams will be conducted under the supervision of the school teachers.
To ensure fairness and security, CBSE has mandated a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) policy for all schools designated as examination centres. Around 8,000 schools will be chosen as exam centres, with an estimated 44 lakh students participating across India and 26 other countries in 2025.
CBSE has issued a set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to assist affiliated schools in accurately submitting the List of Candidates (LOC) for the 2024-25 board exams on time.
In addition, CBSE is reportedly considering a semester system, which could introduce biannual exams for Classes X and XII. Currently, the board exams are conducted in the February-March window, and consultations are ongoing to explore the feasibility of conducting board exams twice a year. However, no final decision has been made on the implementation of this system.
