The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) detained the Assistant Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and six other employees on Monday for allegedly accepting bribes totaling Rs 5 crore in order to assist businessman Amandeep Singh Dhall, a defendant in the Delhi Excise Policy Case.

One of the two officers against whom the investigation agency had lodged a complaint over the bribery allegations was Pawan Khatri, an Assistant Director in the ED. Nitesh Kohar, an Upper Division Clerk, Deepak Sangwan, an employee of Air India, Amandeep Singh Dhall, Birender Pal Singh, Praveen Kumar Vats, a Chartered Accountant, and Vikramaditya, the CEO of Claridges Hotels and Resorts, are the other suspects listed in the FIR, according to ANI.

It was discovered that a number of specific individuals were engaged in the activity of accepting money under the guise of senior ED officers throughout the course of the investigation into the Delhi liquor scandal.

Amandeep Singh Dhall and Birender Pal Singh allegedly gave Praveen Vats Rs 5 crore between December 2022 and January 2023 in order to secure assistance for the ongoing investigation into the Delhi excise policy issue, according to the ED’s charge.

Praveen Vats said in his testimony to the ED that Deepak Sangwan had promised to assist in setting up Amandeep Dhall’s protection from arrest in exchange for a payment. In December 2022, Sangwan introduced Vats to Pawan Khatri, a representative of the ED.

Praveen Vats acquired Rs 3 crore from Amandeep Dhall in six installments of Rs 50 lakh each from December 2022 to January 2023 on the basis of Deepak Sangwan’s commitment. Later, Deepak Sangwan informed Vats that for an additional payment of Rs 2 crore, Amandeep Singh Dhall might be removed off the case’s list of defendants.

As part of the money he received from Amandeep Singh Dhall’s father, Praveen Vats also disclosed to the ED that he had handed Deepak Sangwan and Pawan Khatri an advance payment of Rs 50 lakh each. The payment was made in cash, and the handover took place in a parking lot outside the ITC Hotel in Vasant Vihar around the middle of December 2022.
