Canada has announced the provision of temporary visas for individuals in the Gaza Strip who have Canadian relatives. However, the Canadian government cannot guarantee safe passage out of the besieged Palestinian territory. The program is expected to be operational by January 9, according to Immigration Minister Marc Miller.

Previously, the government focused on evacuating 660 Canadians, permanent residents, and their families from Gaza. The new initiative will accept applications from individuals with extended family connections to Canada, including parents, grandparents, siblings, and grandchildren. Eligible individuals will be offered three-year visas, but the exact number of people expected to benefit from the program remains uncertain.

Miller acknowledged the challenges of evacuating Canadians from Gaza, stating, “We have limited ability.”
