During the Union cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the Centre reduced the price of cooking gas by 200 rupees per cylinder for all home consumers. The Ujjwala scheme now has an additional subsidy that the cabinet has approved. 200 is the supplementary subsidy. Beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) will now receive a 400 rupee per cylinder subsidy.
Only 14.5 crore people had household LPG connections in 2014, the year we first came to power, according to Thakur. “Today that number has increased to 33 crore, of which 9.6 crore have been distributed under the Ujjwala scheme,” the speaker continued.
BJP president JP Nadda responded to the news by writing, “Heartfelt gratitude for the decision taken by the Cabinet under the chairmanship of respected Prime Minister @narendramodi drastically cut the price of cooking gas.”
All other consumers will now receive LPG at a cost of 900, while Ujjwala beneficiaries will receive it for 700. As a present on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Modi Ji gave our women strength. 33 crore consumers nationwide will gain from Modi ji’s decision, he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Speaking during the cabinet briefing, Thakur also disclosed that the government had planned to offer 75 lakh women free gas connections under the Ujjwala programme on the occasions of Raksha Bandhan and Onam.
