Cabinet Approves India-France MoU on Digital Technologies Cooperation

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty of the French Republic on cooperation in the field of Digital Technologies has been approved by the Union Cabinet, which is presided over by Prime Minister Sheri Narendra Modi.

Each Participant’s goal to improve access to digital technology in their nation in accordance with the MoU will be mutually supported by the MoU, which aims to encourage tighter collaboration and information exchange regarding digital technologies.

Bilateral cooperation in the area of digital technologies will be improved on both a G2G and B2B basis.  The MoU anticipates that increased collaboration will result in job possibilities in the IT industry.

The cooperation under this Memorandum of Understanding will begin on the date that both Participants sign it and endure for five (5) years.

MeitY’s mandate is to foster bilateral and regional frameworks of cooperation in the cutting-edge and emerging fields of information technology. MeitY has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and Agreements (Agreements) with counterpart organizations and agencies of various countries on a bilateral or multilateral basis in an effort to promote international collaboration in the field of digital technology. In this changing paradigm, there is an urgent need to explore commercial prospects and attract investment in the digital sector through such mutual cooperation.

In the Indo-European region, France and India have long been strategic allies. Both India and France are dedicated to fostering a vibrant digital ecosystem and developing partnerships that will empower their people and guarantee their full participation in the digital era.

India and France are pursuing an ambitious bilateral cooperation on advanced digital technologies, particularly in the fields of supercomputing, cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence, and quantum technologies, including within the framework of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), based on the Indo-French Road Map on Cyber security and Digital Technology announced on 2019.
