In response to the city’s increasing air pollution, the Delhi government has decided to temporarily prohibit the use of BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel vehicles. Should such automobiles be seen operating on Delhi streets, a penalty of Rs 20,000 may be collected.
As the air quality index in Delhi reached ‘hazardous’ levels, the curbs under stage 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) were applied. The AQI peaked at 835 in Mundka on Thursday, while readings above 700 and 600 were also noted in other locations.
In light of the increasing levels of air pollution, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also declared that all public and private elementary schools in the city will be closed for the next two days.
In an effort to reduce air pollution, the Delhi government has also prohibited any non-essential building activities in the Delhi-NCR and limited the entry of diesel trucks into the nation’s capital.
