BJP MP Maneka Gandhi Accuses ISKCON of Selling Cows to Butchers

ISKCON, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, is the “biggest cheat” in the nation because it sells cows from its gaushalas (cowsheds) to butchers, according to BJP MP Maneka Gandhi.

The charges were denied as “unsubstantiated and false” by ISKCON, the most powerful Krishna sect in the world.

Reaction to Smt. Maneka Gandhi’s unsupported and untrue claims.

Not only in India but also internationally, ISKCON has been in the forefront of cow and bull protection and care.

Ms Gandhi, a former union minister and an animal rights activist, is vocal on social media over issues of animal welfare.

“ISKCON is the biggest cheat in the country. It maintains gaushalas and get benefits from the government, including vast lands,” she is heard saying in a video that has gone viral.

She then reflects on her trip to ISKCON’s Anantpur Gaushala in Andhra Pradesh, where she claims she was unable to locate any cows or calves that don’t produce milk. “The entire dairy had no dry cows. There was not one calf in sight. It indicates that all were sold.

A dry cow is one that hasn’t had its milk recently.

All of ISKCON’s cows are being sold to butchers. Nobody else engages in this level of activity. On the streets, people continue to sing “Hare Ram, Hare Krishna.” Then they claim that milk is essential to their existence. No one has likely sold as many cattle to the butchers as they did, she asserts.

Yudhistir Govinda Das, the national spokesperson for ISKCON, refuted the accusations and asserted that the religious organization has been at the forefront of cow and bull preservation and care not only in India but also internationally. He declared: “The cows and bulls are served for life, not sold to butchers as claimed.

According to an ISKCON statement he posted, ISKCON has been a leader in cow protection in many regions of the world where beef is a staple diet. The statement read, “Smt. Gandhi is a well-known animal rights activist and supporter of ISKCON; hence, we are startled by these words.

With millions of followers worldwide, the ISKCON, a part of the Hare Krishna movement, has hundreds of temples.

A few months ago, the ISKCON made news when one of its monks disparaged Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna Paramahansa. The religious organization swiftly “banned” the monk Amogh Lila Das and sent him to make amends when his remarks caused a significant controversy.
