Rahul Gandhi attended the Congress’ 139th Foundation Day rally in Nagpur on Thursday, termed ‘Hain Taiyyar Hum’ (We Are Ready), to criticize the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP, on the other hand, was eager to point out a gaffe made by the Congress politician during his blistering address.
While speaking at a rally, Rahul Gandhi launched an all-out assault on the BJP on a variety of issues, including the party’s participation to India’s liberation fight.
However, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla took to X and shared a clip from Rahul Gandhi’s long speech. The clip highlighted a fumble made by Rahul Gandhi during his speech as he mistakenly said, “Angrezon ki ladai, angrezon ke khilaf thi (The fight of the British was against the British)”.
Rahul Gandhi’s address at Nagpur, the headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), served as a rallying cry for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress MP accused the BJP and RSS of returning the country to the pre-independence age of slavery, and stated the BJP’s philosophy is that of “Raja-Maharajas” (kings) who do not listen to anybody and issue orders from the top that everyone must follow.
He further stated that the BJP-led national government has returned many people to poverty.
Rahul Gandhi further stated that if the Opposition’s INDIA coalition wins the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a caste census will be performed.
Rahul Gandhi slammed the BJP for questioning the Congress’s contribution to the country’s development, pointing out that prior to independence, the princely states were “in partnership with the British,” whereas the Constitution shaped by Mahatma Gandhi, BR Ambedkar, and Jawaharlal Nehru protected people’s rights and gave every citizen the right to vote.
