Kalidas Kolambkar, a senior BJP MLA, took oath as pro-tem speaker of the Maharashtra legislative assembly on Friday, one day before the newly elected house’s special session.
Governor CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office to the nine-time MLA at the Raj Bhavan in South Mumbai.
Kolambkar is the most senior representative in the new house, having won the Wadala seat in Mumbai’s assembly elections last month.
As pro-tem speaker, he will administer oaths to 288 freshly elected MLAs and preside over parliamentary sessions.
Kolambkar will also preside over the election of a regular speaker at the 15th State Assembly’s three-day extraordinary session, which begins on December 7 in Mumbai.
The speaker’s election will be held on December 9 and it will be followed by trust vote of the Devendra Fadnavis-led Mahayuti government which was sworn-in on December 5.
