On Tuesday, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) selected Captain Yogesh Bairagi, a former Air India pilot, as its candidate for the Julana assembly district, competing against Congress candidate and Paris Olympics star Vinesh Phogat.
The BJP has included Yogesh Bairagi’s name on its second list for the 2018 Haryana assembly elections.
Yogesh, 35, is well-known for his service in critical situations, such as his involvement in rescue and relief operations during the Chennai floods and his participation in the Indian government’s “Vande Bharat” mission, which aimed to bring back stranded Indian nationals during the Covid-19 pandemic.
His respect for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, notably the achievement of the Vande Bharat program, motivated him to join the BJP.
Yogesh, who resides in Safidon in the Jind district of Haryana, is the vice president of the youth wing of the Haryana BJP at the moment.
His choice to enter politics was heavily impacted by the issues of his home village, notably the issue of unemployment, which prompted him to investigate politics.
On September 4, the saffron party unveiled its initial list of 67 candidates for the Haryana elections. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has been fielded from the Ladwa constituency, while numerous newcomers to the party have also been given tickets to the elections.
Haryana is scheduled to vote on October 5, with the results being released on October 8.
