BJP Announces First List of Candidates for MP and Chhattisgarh Assembly

The first list of candidates for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Assembly elections has been made public by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). Both of these states would present an enormous obstacle to the JP Nadda-led party, particularly in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.

After Jyotiraditya Scindia rebelled and left the administration led by Congress leader Kamal Nath, which resulted in Nath’s defeat, the BJP took control of Madhya Pradesh. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a BJP leader, was appointed Chief Minister as a result of the events.
In the 2018 assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, the BJP won only 15 of the 90 seats in the Chhattisgarh Assembly while the Congress won 68 of them. As a result, Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel has maintained his position as chief minister.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the BJP was able to reverse the situation in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh by winning 28 of the 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh and nine of the 11 constituencies in Chhattisgarh.

The BJP has acknowledged that the outcomes of the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram serve as a litmus test before the approaching 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, where the BJP is vying for a third consecutive term.

Notably, the BJP was only effective in gaining power in Madhya Pradesh after overthrowing the elected Kamal Nath administration out of the five states that would have elections in November–December 2023.
